The number of buses linking Shenzhen's Bao'an International Airport and Hong Kong has increased from 12 to 24 a day.
"The increase caters for the peak number of people going through the airport since the summer holidays began," said an airport management company spokesperson surnamed Wen. Many travelers from other cities went directly to Hong Kong after getting off planes at the airport.
"They just don't want to take the trouble to go into Shenzhen and then through the crowded checkpoints," he said.
The primary reason for the increase of people traveling to Hong Kong is that the central government has allowed more cities to provide travel permits for individual visits to Hong Kong and Macao, Wen said.
The first bus leaves the airport at 10 am and the last one leaves at 9 pm.
The increase in the bus services can can accommodate an additional 300 more people traveling to Hong Kong airport and other places each day. The bus company could add extra services at weekends and holidays, Wen said. (Shenzhen Daily July 15, 2004)
