The Research Institute of Computing Technology under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) will set up a branch in Pudong New District of Shanghai.
Under an agreement signed between the institute and the Pudong New District government, the institute will also set up a research center for mobile telecommunications in Pudong.
In their long-term and all-round partnership, the two sides will push forward the commercialization of any research achievements of the Shanghai Branch of the Research Institute of Computing Technology.
The branch in Pudong will specialize in the research and development of telecom, network and computer technologies and in the transfer of research results and training.
Meanwhile, exchanges between scientists and entrepreneurs will be organized on occasion, so as to inform the former about changes in demand and enable the latter to understand the development trends of new- and high-technology.
Praised as the "cradle of China's computer business", the CAS Research Institute of Computing Technology is the first such national research organ on the Chinese mainland and is also a training center for senior professionals in the business.
After 13 years of development, Pudong now maintains a speedy economic growth and boasts an improved investment environment. It has become an information technology production base in Shanghai with an emerging software and microelectronics sector.
