A high-ranking cadre of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has called for efforts to recognize the roles of elderly outstanding scientists.
He Guoqiang, head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks while visiting some of China's most renowned scientists, all winners of China's top science prize.
They are Wu Wenjun, one of the country's outstanding mathematicians and winner of China's first top science prizes in 2001, Huang Kun, one of the founders of the country's semi-conductor science, and Wang Xuan, the inventor of the world's first Chinese-character publishing software .
