The Education Department (ED) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) and the Hong Kong Education City held the "IT in Education Forum: New Developments and Business Breakthroughs" Wednesday to exchange experience with the commercial sector.
The forum was attended by over 400 representatives from the IT field, publishers, educational software producers and subsidiary companies of universities.
The participants took the initiative to express their views on various aspects including the e-schoolbag scheme and the modes of collaboration between the commercial sector and the Hong Kong Education City.
Speaking at the forum, Ma Siu-leung, principal education officer of ED, said that with the joint efforts of the department and schools, the IT infrastructure in schools had been basically completed.
"The next step should focus on the development of software and accessories so as to utilize IT in enhancing the effectiveness of teaching and learning, and to assist schools in systematizing their management," he said.
Also speaking at the forum was Jacqueline Cheng, chief executive officer of the Hong Kong Education City Limited (HKECL), which was newly established on May 27 this yea.
She delineated the role of HKECL in the development process of IT in education, saying that HKECL would put great emphasis on the importance of "enjoyable learning" and support curriculum and education reforms through its website content, tools and activities.
