China wants the Korean peninsula to be free of nuclear weapons and enjoy peace, stability and prosperity, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing said Phnom Penh Thursday.
Li made the remarks when answering questions in a joint press conference of the ASEAN Post Ministerial Conferences.
He said China has worked very hard with the international community to help realizing the enduring peace of the Korean peninsula.
"We think the best way to this goal is dialogue," said Li, adding that the recent Beijing talks among China, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), and the United States to deal with the DPRK nuclear issue was a good start, hoping this kind of talks would continue.
"I believe that if all the parties concerned have the sincerity, determination and confidence to keep the dialogue going forward, we can finally have a peaceful solution," he said.
The Chinese foreign minister also said that the developing ASEAN has been playing a more and more important role in maintaining the regional security and development, and China is determined to work for a long-term cooperation with the ASEAN.
Li Zhaoxing is attending the 10th ASEAN Regional Forum and the Post Ministerial Conferences in Phnom Penh. He will leave here tomorrow for a visit to Thailand.
