President of the Commonwealth of Dominica Nicholas Liverpool reiterated his country's one-China policy on Monday.

 

"The Commonwealth of Dominica will firmly abide by the one-China policy and oppose 'Taiwan independence,'" Liverpool said in a meeting with Vice President Zeng Qinghong during his week-long visit to China.

 

Liverpool also expressed his country's appreciation to China for its support and assistance, saying that the Commonwealth of Dominica is ready to enhance friendly cooperation with China in all fields to further improve bilateral ties.

 

Zeng told Liverpool that it had been well proved that the friendship and cooperation between China and the Commonwealth of Dominica serves the basic and long-term interests of the two peoples.

 

He also thanked Liverpool for his country's opposition to activities seeking "Taiwan independence."

 

Zeng said the Chinese government attaches high importance to its ties with the Commonwealth of Dominica and would continue to support its efforts of promoting economic and social development.

 

Zeng said his government would encourage Chinese companies to explore economic and trade cooperation with the Commonwealth of Dominica.

 

"China hopes to deepen ties with all Caribbean countries based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence and make unremitting efforts to boost China-Caribbean trade and economic cooperation," Zeng said.

 

China and the Commonwealth of Dominica forged official ties in March, 2004.
