Premier Wen Meets with Dominican PM

The Dominican government is committed to the one-China policy, and supports China's active role in the international affairs, said visiting Prime Minister of the Dominica Roosevelt Skerrit in Beijing Tuesday.

He told Premier Wen Jiabao that Dominica hopes to promote cooperation with China on tourism, housing, investment and other areas.

China and Dominica established diplomatic relations in March 2004, and this was viewed by Wen as "a historical turning point." Wen said from then on, the relationship between the two countries has entered a new stage of healthy and stable development.

Over the past year, the two sides have been committed to developing bilateral ties, and political trust and economic cooperation have made remarkable progress, Wen said.

He added Sino-Dominican relationship, based on equal treatment and reciprocity, is in the interest of the two countries and peoples, thus the two sides should value it and further promote it.

Wen also detailed the areas of the bilateral cooperation such as in culture, education, and health, and advocated the two countries' consultations in the international affairs.

Skerrit said the relations between Dominica and China have developed on the basis of mutual respect to each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and non-interference in each other's internal affairs.

He also expressed gratitude for the assistance of China to Dominica.

After talks, the two prime ministers witnessed the signing ceremony of cooperative documents on economy, education and tourism.
