China, Dominica Pledge to Further Ties

Jia Qinglin, the top political advisor, said in Beijing Wednesday that China is ready to further comprehensive cooperation with Dominica based on the principle of mutual respect and benefit.

In a meeting with Prime Minister of the Dominica Roosevelt Skerrit, Jia said since the two countries forged diplomatic ties, China and Dominica have enhanced friendly cooperation in all fields with increasing political trust.

On March 30, 2004, China and Dominica set up full diplomatic ties.

Jia said China and Dominica are both developing countries and improving friendly cooperation benefits the two peoples.

After meeting with Jia, Skerrit also met with Vice President Zeng Qinghong.

Zeng urged the two countries to improve political, economic and cultural cooperation to ensure the stable, healthy and long-term development of bilateral ties.

Both Jia and Zeng expressed their appreciation for the Dominican government's adherence to the one-China policy.

Skerrit said the Dominica-China ties have grown rapidly over the past year and bilateral cooperation has expanded to broad areas.

He said China is a sincere friend of Dominica, adding that his country firmly abides by the one-China policy and is devoted to promoting the long-term and friendly ties with China.

Skerrit arrived in Beijing Sunday for a week-long official visit. On Tuesday, he held talks with Premier Wen Jiabao. After talks, the two governments signed a series of cooperative documents on economy, education and tourism.
