China and Belarus will promote legislative cooperation, learn from each other, and push forward substantial cooperation in all fields, top legislator Wu Bangguo said in Beijing Tuesday.
Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, told visiting Belarusian President Alexander Grigorievich Lukashenko that the NPC and the Belarusian parliament have maintained frequent contacts and the special committees have cooperated well in recent years.
"China and Belarus have been committed to reform, economic development, and democratic construction despite their different social systems, thus the two legislative organs should enhance cooperation in all fields," Wu said.
He noted that China values its relations with Belarus and takes it as a "reliable friend," and would like to promote political trust and strategic cooperation.
Wu expressed his appreciation for the support of Belarus on the Taiwan issue.
Lukashenko said the relationship between Belarus and China has been developing smoothly, and bilateral cooperation in all fields has been fruitful. Belarus would like to enhance the existing good relations with China, he added.
He expressed gratitude for the Chinese NPC to the Belarusian parliament in the international arena, reaffirming that Belarus will go on adhering to the one-China policy.
