Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra met in Bangkok Monday with Wang Zhaoguo, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress (NPC). They exchanged views on friendly bilateral ties between the two countries and two governments.
Wang said that Thailand is a good neighbor, good friend and good partner of China. In the past 30 years after the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand, the two countries and two peoples have established friendly relations marked by mutual trust, mutual understanding and mutual support, he added.
In the past three decades, Wang said, the two sides have strengthened cooperation in trade, culture, education and other fields. The two partners are also harmonious and cooperative in regional and international affairs.
Wang also expressed his appreciation for the Thai government's adherence to the one-China policy.
Thaksin said Thai-Sino relations are deeply rooted and are as inseparable as relatives and brothers. He said that the Thai government attaches great importance to developing relations between Thailand and China.
Thaksin said that the Thai government will stick to the one-China policy and promote friendship between the two peoples in the future.
Before this meeting, Wang also met with Phokin Palakul, president of the Thai National Assembly, and Suchon Chaleekure, president of the Senate of the Kingdom of Thailand.
The NPC delegation headed by Wang arrived in Bangkok Friday on a four-day official goodwill visit as guests of the Thai National Assembly.
