Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan said in Beijing Monday that China will work with Belgium to promote the sustained, sound and stable development of relations between the two nations and their military forces.
During the talks with Belgian Defense Minister Andre Flahaut, Cao said China and Belgium have developed bilateral ties smoothly since the two established diplomatic relations, and in particular, in recent years when frequent high-level mutual visits, expanded bilateral exchanges and cooperation have taken place.
"The bilateral relationship has entered a stage of comprehensive, in-depth and rapid development over the past few years," said Cao.
Cao, also vice chairman of the Central Military Commission and a state councilor, briefed Flahaut on China's economic development and military building and exchanged views with him on the international and regional situation and issues of common concern.
Flahaut said Belgium does not consider China a threatening power but an important force in maintaining regional balance and stability.
Belgium is confident that the two countries are able to build up solid relations in wider areas, said Flahaut.
