Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan said in Beijing Tuesday that peace talks are ultimate solution to the Middle East issue.
Meeting with visiting Mahmoud Abbas, former prime minister of the Palestinian National Authority, Tang said China worries about the current situation in Middle East.
Stopping violence and resuming peace talks are urgently necessary, Tang said.
Tang urged the parties concerned to abide by the United Nations resolutions and fulfill the principle of "land for peace."
China was among the first nations to support the cause of Palestinians and recognize the State of Palestine, Tang said.
China has long provided aid and support within its own capacity to Palestine and will continue to resolutely support the just struggle of the Palestinian people for restoring their legitimate rights and interests, Tang said.
He said China, together with the international community including Palestine, is willing to work for the just and reasonable settlement of the Middle East issue as early as possible. Abbas said he agreed with Tang's views. He expressed his thanks for the Chinese government's consistent support for and selfless help to Palestine.
