Chinese Vice-Premier Wu Yi has called for the China International Hi-tech Production Fair (CIHPF) to become a "window" for displaying the highest level of hi-tech achievement and an important "platform" for the application of scientific and technological methods.
Wu made the call during the opening ceremony of the 5th CIHPF held Sunday in Shenzhen.
China has been attempting to revitalize the nation through science and education, focusing on innovation in science and technology, which promoted the development of China's hi-tech industries, said Wu.
The CIHPF has become a focus for international exchange and cooperation of hi-tech industries, growing every year, according to the vice-premier.
Wu demanded the CIHPF play an important role in restructuring industry through the use of new technology.
The vice-premier also urged the improvement of management of the fair, as well as the manner of its organization and operation and focus on fulfilling contracts.
A total of 18 countries including the United States, Canada, Russia, Australia, the Republic of Korea and the Europe Union, as well as dozens of domestic related bodies, displayed hi-tech production at the fair.
