Lien Chan, honorary chairman of the Chinese Kuomintang (KMT) will revisit the mainland on October 14, sources with the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council said Thursday.

Li Weiyi, spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office, said here Thursday at a press conference that Lien Chan will first visit relatives and friends in the city of Shenyang in northeast China's Liaoning Province on behalf of his mother, and later visit other cities under the arrangement of the Taiwan Affairs Office.

Li noted that whether Lien Chan will visit Wolong natural reserve in southwest China's Sichuan Province has not been decided, stressing that any move that could push forward the process of sending giant pandas to Taiwan will be welcomed.

Pinpointing the advocacy by KMT senior official that cross-straits efforts should be taken to compile history books on the anti-Japanese war, Li said, the victory of the Chinese people against Japanese aggression in World War II is a great victory of all Chinese people and the Chinese nationality. Chinese President Hu Jintao, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made an important speech on the historical and realistic significance of the war this September.

The two cross-strait parties could exchange views on this issue with the exchanging mechanism established, Li added.

At the invitation of the CPC Central Committee and Hu Jintao, the CPC Central Committee general secretary, Lien Chan visited the mainland from April 26 to May 3.
