The world's first diploma in corruption studies was launched on Monday in Hong Kong by School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPACE) of the University of Hong Kong (HKU).
The opening ceremony was officiated by Director of HKU SPACE Professor Young and Course Director Tony Kwok.
Eighteen students enrolled in the program with 16 coming from overseas, including Philippines, Zambia, Kenya, Pakistan, Timor, Netherlands and Canada.
The postgraduate diploma in corruption studies comprises courses of introduction to corruption, types of corruption and systemic approaches to reduce corruption, comparative studies of anti-corruption structures and strategies, corruption legislation,measures to investigate corruption, and corruption prevention and education.
Kwok, former Deputy Commissioner and Head of Operations of the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), held high expectations for the program. He hoped the students can apply what they have learnt to their countries.
Young said at the ceremony that HKU SPACE was honored to launchthe program. He said that with the support of governments from various countries, it is hoped that corruption could be wiped out around the world.
