UK Donates Teaching References to Chongqing
The British Consulate-General in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality has donated a batch of English-teaching reference works to over 30 of the city's schools and colleges.

Three thousand English teachers from 42 districts and counties will be the beneficiaries of the 3,000 sets of reference works, each of which consists of books, posters and CDs providing an introduction to British culture, education and customs.

The donation of the reference works, called "Teachers' Packs", is part of a large overseas program -- "Think UK," launched by the British government to showcase the country's originality, creativity and innovative spirit and to promote cultural and educational exchanges between the two countries.

Carma Elliot, the consul-general, said the British government hopes that "Teachers' Packs" will help improve teachers' work.

The donation is also an indication of the British government's support for China's reform of its English education, said Ms. Elliot.

Similar projects have been launched in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
