A senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has called for further efforts to promote prosperity and the development of the country's cultural undertakings through the implementation of the principles adopted at the 16th CPC National Congress and the important thought of Three Represents.
Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, called for further emancipation of the mind along with greater efforts to improve the management system in the field so as order to promote the development of the cultural undertakings.
These efforts will help inspire and motivate artists to produce more excellent artistic works and to cultivate more talented artists, he said at a national conference held to discuss the trial reform of China's cultural sector in Beijing on June 27-28.
Li said that cultural development plays an elementary and strategic role in advancing the country's overall social progress while boosting economic growth, enhancing comprehensive national strength, and nurturing national ethos and spirit.
New notions, attitudes and opinions should be introduced to better understand the importance of cultural development, Li said, adding that people should abandon their planned economy-era notions of cultural development in favor of those conforming to the current socialist market economic system.
Participants to the conference reached consensus that the reform of the cultural sector should be accelerated and an overall program for the reform should be worked out as soon as possible.
