The start of filming on a large-scale documentary television series titled Chinese Scientists, was launched with a ceremony in Beijing on March 19.
The series is being jointly produced by the China Association for Science and Technology and the Star TV Company Ltd, Hong Kong. Guo Hao, an association official, said it was the first television series to mainly feature mainland sci-tech researchers.
A desire to see the trials and success stories of famous scientists introduced to the public was expressed by both Hong Kong government chief executive Tung Chee Hua and honorary president of the Chinese association Zhu Guangya when they met last year.
According to a briefing on the series at the ceremony, each TV episode will be shot separately. The first episodes to screen later this year will focus on such scientists as Qian Xuesen, Zhu Guangya, Zhou Guangzhao, Qian Weichang and Wang Daheng.
Before shooting began, association president Zhou Guangzhao met with Xu Xiaoming, the executive president of Star TV to mark the launch of the series.
