The documentary, Chuanqi (Saga), is a serial similar to those on the Discovery Channel and National Geographic, and has proved extremely popular since its launch in Beijing last year.
Produced by Beijing Continental Bridge Culture Development Ltd, the serial is as colorful and interesting as its US forerunners but tailored for the local market.
So far more than 60 major TV stations nationwide have purchased the program and broadcast the serial daily. More broadcasting contracts are being signed, according to the producer.
The producer has made some minor adjustments to the original layout this year. It has launched a new serial, called Top 10 in the World.
The new serial highlights the Top 10 Natural Wonders, Top 10 Storehouses, Top 10 Luxury Hotels and Ten Best-known Spies.
The addition of the new programs has boosted the expectations of the producer of meeting market demand.
All Chuanqi documentaries can be divided into four categories: nature, military, arts and sciences.
They mainly feature various natural wonders and legendary stories in history, interesting viewers in the mysteries of nature and human society.
But most of the contents were not shot by Continental Bridge. It collects or buys raw material from TV documentaries made by more than 60 entertainment companies in 16 countries, and then chooses what it regards as suitable for the Chinese market.
In addition to the documentaries, the company has also launched VCD/DVD products and spin-off books.
