The mainland's largest ever summer camp for Taiwan students has opened in Beijing.
The activity aims to promote Chinese culture among the island's younger generation. More than twelve-hundred college students from Taiwan, the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Macao, as well as some foreign countries will attend the four-day event.
The traditional Chinese performance of a lion show kicked-off the event, giving students their first taste of Chinese culture. Organized by the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots, the annual summer camp for youth from Taiwan, has a 20-year history.
Summer camp participants are scheduled to visit Beijing's world heritage sites and other scenic spots. And one hundred of the participants will be chosen at random to be guests at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
