Benchmark Share Index Reaches New High

Chinese share prices refreshed record on Tuesday with a slight rise amid new policy to scrutinize mergers and acquisitions of listed companies.

The Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.07 percent to close at 5,425.21 points. But the Shenzhen Component Index for the smaller bourse in Shenzhen was down 0.96 percent to 18,316.42 points.

The combined turnover reached around 262 billion yuan (US$34.8 billion), higher than the 256 billion yuan on previous trading day.
