Lobsang Toinzhub, deputy chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Region, went to the Nepalese consulate general Tuesday morning to express his condolences on the death of King Birendra and Queen Aishwarya of Nepal.

Lobsang said Birendra was an old friend of the Chinese people. "He visited Tibet three times in his life, and deeply impressed the Tibetan people with his kindness and modesty."

"The Tibetan people are greatly shocked and grieved at the sad news," Lobsang told Nepalese consul general Shankar Prasad Pandey.

Pandey thanked the Chinese people for their active support to the Nepalese in times of difficulty, and expressed belief that Nepal-China friendship will be further strengthened.
