A communiqué between China and Romania was issued in Beijing Saturday at the conclusion of Romanian Prime Minister Adrian Nastase's working visit to China.
At the invitation of Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji, Prime Minister Nastase arrived on June 25. During the visit, he held talks with Zhu. President Jiang Zemin and Vice-Premier Qian Qichen met him respectively.
The communiqué said the two sides exchanged views on bilateral relations and other issues of common concern and reached a broad consensus.
A series of agreements were signed concerning aid from China to Romania, and cooperation in education, securities and commercial banks.
The communiqué said that Zhu and Nastase both expressed satisfaction with the positive development of the traditional Sino-Romanian friendly cooperation.
The two sides pledged their willingness to further boost ties in accordance with the principles of mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit, non-inference of internal affairs and other acknowledged norms of international laws, the communiqué said.
The two sides are willing to further strengthen high-level political dialogue and expand contacts between their governments, parliaments, and non-governmental organizations to push forward the friendly exchanges and cooperation.
The two sides underlined the development of economic and trade relations in line with rules of the market economy, encouraging and supporting direct communications between companies, corporations and businessmen of the two nations.
Active cooperation would be fostered in fields of common interest, including telecommunication, information technology, mechanics, auto and farming machines manufacture, chemicals, medicine, furniture manufacture, timber processing and textiles.
The communiqué said the two nations would encourage their companies to invest in each other's infrastructures, energy, civil construction, highways, cement, oil transportation and gas pipelines.
Zhu and Nastase positively evaluated the work of the two governments' mixed committees for economy and trade, reiterating the necessity of improving the efficiency of the committees, especially that of the Chamber of Commerce and other economic associations, in a bid to promote direct contacts between local administrative and economic departments.
The Romanian side reiterated its commitment to stick to the “one China" principle, expressing appreciation of China's tremendous role and significant contribution to promoting international peace, cooperation and stability.
The communiqué said China stressed the great role Romania has played in safeguarding regional and world peace and stability and consolidating security.
The two sides believe that all countries, large or small, rich or poor, strong or weak, are equal members of the international community with equal rights to participate in international affairs, said the communiqué.
They stressed that terrorism is a severe threat and challenge to human civilization and world peace, and pledged their willingness to strengthen exchanges and cooperation on international terrorism issues and support for the international community's efforts in this area led by the United Nations Security Council, the communiqué said.
The communiqué said Premier Zhu accepted Nastase's invitation to visit Romania.
The Romanian prime minister also visited Hong Kong on June 25 and 26 and met with Tung Chee Hwa, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the communiqué said.
