Jiang Bids Bush Farewell

Chinese President Jiang Zemin and his wife Wang Yeping had luncheon with US President George W. Bush and his wife Laura Bush here Friday, and bid farewell to them.

Jiang said he is glad to have had candid and in-depth talks with Bush on Sino-US relations and major international issues over the past two days, and reached consensus on many important issues.

"We have agreed to further strengthen our exchanges and cooperation in various fields and strive to enrich the Sino-US constructive relationship of cooperation," Jiang said. This will be of great significance for the further promotion of bilateral ties, he said.

Bush once again thanked Jiang and the Chinese side for their hospitality.

He said his China visit has achieved positive results, and he has been deeply impressed with China's development and changes.

The US side is willing to make joint efforts with the Chinese side to enhance their mutual understanding and increase their contacts and cooperation so as to keep the two countries' relations developing, Bush said.

He said he is looking forward to meeting with Jiang again in the United States in October.

Chinese Vice-Premier Qian Qichen and his wife Zhou Hanqiong were present on the occasion.
