Jiang Proposes Four Points for Developing Sino-US Relations
Chinese President Jiang Zemin made a four-point proposition for China and the United States to safeguard and develop the positive momentum in the bilateral relations, and to enrich the bilateral constructive relationship of cooperation.

Jiang made the proposition during his talks with US PresidentGeorge W. Bush who arrived here Thursday morning for a working visit.

He said that firstly, both sides should further strengthen high-level strategic dialogues and contacts between departments at various levels, and enhance understandings and trust.

Secondly, both sides should deepen exchanges and cooperation invarious fields so as to benefit the two peoples, said Jiang.

Thirdly, both sides should properly deal with their differences,especially on the Taiwan issue, on the basis of mutual respect andseeking common ground while reserving differences, Jiang said.

Fourthly, both sides should adopt a world-wide perspective in considering the Sino-US relations, and keep exchanges and strengthen cooperation in jointly safeguarding world peace and enhancing the progress of human civilization, said Jiang.

Agreeing with Jiang on his proposition for the development of bilateral relations, Bush said that the US government expects toexpand and strengthen cooperation with China in various fields, which will not only benefit the two countries but also be of significance to safeguarding world peace and promoting cooperation.
