PLA Chief of General Staff Meets Singaporean Guests

Through joint efforts by the peoples of both China and the Singapore, the good relations between the two countries and two armies have bright prospects, said Fu Quanyou, chief of General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) in Beijng Tuesday.

Fu, also a member of the Central Military Commission, spoke highly of the relations between the two armed forces when he met with Lim Chuan Poh, Chief of Defense Force of Singapore, and his party.

Fu said both the Chinese government and the armed forces attach great importance to the friendly relations with Singapore, as they not only serve the fundamental interests of the two peoples, but are conducive to the peace and development of the Asia-Pacific region.

Fu praised Singapore for its consistent support for the "one- China" policy, and briefed the guests on China's peaceful foreign policy of independence.

Lim, the first Chief of Defense Force of Singapore to visit China, said he has been pleased to witness the great achievements China has made in its economic drive.

Lim expressed his hope to further cooperation and ties between the two armed forces in the 21st century, and stressed Singapore's standpoint on the "one-China" policy.

Lim began his tour to China on October 21, at the invitation of Fu.
