China, Venezuela Ink Deals to Forster Cooperation

China and Venezuela Tuesday in Caracas signed a number of governmental and enterprise agreements in a bid to boost bilateral cooperation.

Visiting Chinese President Jiang Zemin and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, along with 2,000 Chinese and Venezuelan officials, business executives and journalists, witnessed the signing ceremony held at Teresa Carreno Theater.

The two countries inked a series of documents including a memorandum of understanding on the formation of a high-level commission, an agreement aiming at avoiding double taxation and preventing tax erosion, an agreement on providing preferential loan to Venezuela and an agreement on the implementation of the cultural cooperation accord (2001-2003) between the two governments.

The two sides also clinched documents relating to the cooperation in the fields of energy, geology and mining.

The Chinese president was in Caracas on a state visit, the last stop of the six-nation tour of Latin America.
