A total of 1.073 million accidents of various kinds claimed some 139,400 lives in China in 2002, an official report revealed Monday.
Altogether 128 serious accidents, each with a death toll of more than 10 people, killed a total of 2,341 people, according to the national work safety report from the State Administration of Production Safety.
Mishaps in manufacturing and mining sectors were the worst workplace killers in 2002, claiming 14,924 lives.
Another 118,195 people died in traffic accidents, including road, railway, water transport and air disasters, according to the report.
