Wang Xianzheng, director of the State Administration of Production Safety (SAPS), said here Tuesday that China still faces serious problems in work safety despite apparent improvements.
Wang said 99 serious accidents happened from Jan. 1 to Oct. 20,killing 1,831 people. The numbers were down 10.81 percent and 12.98 percent respectively year-on-year.
A total of 799,567 accidents happened during the first nine months this year, leaving 99,820 death toll, in which 80,670 people were killed in traffic accidents, Wang said.
Wang made the announcement at a press conference held by the Information Office of the State Council here Tuesday.
