According to a report by the China Daily Friday, the stringent new code, known as the "Five Prohibitions", highlights five no-go areas for the police, which are gambling, drinking alcohol during work hours, drink-driving, carrying firearms under the influence of alcohol and violating gun use and management rules.

Violators of the "Five Prohibitions" will receive harsh punishment including dismissal and expulsion from the police, said Liu De at Thursday's news conference, who is a senior officer with the Beijing Public Security Bureau (BPSB).

The BPSB has dispatched 200 inspectors throughout the city to check the police's daily activities and publicize the "Five Prohibitions" among the entire force, according to Liu.

"It is the strictest disciplinary code of its kind in recent years," said Wang Weiping, a public inspector of police conduct in BPSB.

Wang, who is also a deputy to Beijing Municipal People's Congress, urged that the public to scrutinize police conduct according to the "Five Prohibitions".
