Nine policemen in Beijing were fired in 2002 after they were caught drink-driving, according to Liu De, a senior official with the Beijing Public Security Bureau.
Liu said on Thursday the policemen were fired because they had violated one of the "iron discipline rules" distributed by the bureau in May 2002, which stipulated that a policeman who caused road accidents in drink-driving would be fired.
On Jan. 22, 2003, the Ministry of Public Security promulgated a new police discipline called "five bans" to further strengthen the supervision over the conducts of police.
The five bans will be officially implemented nationwide on Feb.1, 2003. However, Beijing police began to carry out the orders on Jan. 23, Liu De said.
