Two deputies have been deprived of their seats in the Ninth National People's Congress (NPC), the top legislative body of China, for committing crimes, the Ninth NPC Standing Committee announced Monday.
Li Jingwei, former chairman and general manager of the Guangdong Jianlibao Corporation, a well-known sports drink company was deprived of the seat at the Committee's 30th meeting which concluded Monday in Beijing.
The announcement said that Li was accused of embezzling 3.31 million yuan (US$401,000) from public funds.
Sang Yuechun, former deputy to the Ninth NPC of Jilin Province and legal representative of Changchun Jigang Group also lost his seat at the meeting. Sang was accused of crimes of intending to cause injury to others, framing up others, racketeering and the obstruction of public duties.
