Expressways in China Reach 30,000 km in 2003

4,600 kilometers of new expressways were built in China last year. The country now has a total length of nearly 30,000 kilometers of expressways.

Four more arterial expressways were completed last year, linking the northeastern city of Tongjiang City to the southernmost Sanya City, Beijing to the southern port of Zhuhai, the eastern coastal city of Lianyungang to the western land port Horgos, and Shanghai to the southwestern city of Chengdu.

East China's Shandong Province has over 3,000 kilometers of expressways, ranking first in the country.
