Tricon Global Restaurants Inc., a US-based fast food giant, announced on Monday it has opened more than 800 Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) and 100 Pizza Hut outlets in China.
The company opened over 200 KFC restaurants in 2002 alone in China, accounting for one-fifth of outlets it opened globally last year, company president David Novak said in the Chinese city of Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi Province.
KFC has maintained the company's fastest expansion rate in China since Tricon opened its first restaurant in Beijing in 1987.KFC outlets have spread to more than 200 Chinese cities over the past 15 years.
Novak said Chinese fast food had great market potential and thecompany would cooperate with Chinese companies to promote Chinese fast food as more and more foreign people liked it.
Tricon is the world's largest food and restaurant group, owningsuch famous fast-food brands as KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell. It has 32,500 chain restaurants operating in more than 100 countries and regions and its sales revenue in 2001 was over 22 billion US dollars.
