Shanghai Volkswagen (VW) is expected to sell 30,000 Polo sedans this year, with the total VW sales volume to exceed a record high of 270,000, according to the Shanghai Volkswagen Car Co. Ltd.
Polo's better sales performance has boosted all the VW car models this year, said the spokesman with Shanghai VW. Shanghai VW's move to introduce Polo models at the same time as overseas VW ventures enabled Chinese suppliers' to gain technological knowledge from these ventures and sharpen their competitive edges, the spokesman said.
Polo debuted in the market in April this year, more than 40 percent of which are domestically produced. "We are trying hard to perfect its production line," the spokesman said.
Local suppliers of Shanghai VW have acquired top technological capability by producing Polo, the spokesman said.
Polo's high sales volume makes Shanghai VW more capable of offering more quality and cheaper car products to Chinese consumers in the future, he said.
Polo will show its huge production potentials in the coming three years, with the sales volume expected to reach 150,000 a year.
