Sixteen people were killed and 12 others injured in a truck collision in Jiangjin City, southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, on Thursday, said Shi Chongwei, an official with the Jiangjin municipal government.

The accident occurred when a farming truck carrying 29 migrant workers collided with the road guardrail. All the passengers were thrown from the truck.

Fourteen people were pronounced dead at the scene and two others died on the way to the hospital. The 12 who were injured were all out of danger as of Thursday night. The driver and one passenger emerged from the accident unscathed.
