Ministry of Health Press Release (June 8) on SARS
The Press Office under the Ministry of Health published Sunday afternoon a press release on the latest SARS situation on the Chinese mainland.

From 10:00 am June 7 to 10:00 am June 8, the Chinese mainland reported no new diagnosed SARS case, 124 patients recovered and 1 death. Beijing reported 97 patients recovered and 1 death. Patients recovered also included 10 from Inner Mongolia, 6 from Hebei, 4 each from Shanxi and Jilin, 2 from Guangdong and 1 from Jiangsu.

From 10:00 am June 7 to 10:00 am June 8, Guangdong reported 3 new suspected cases.

From 10:00 am June 7 to 10:00 am June 8, the Chinese mainland also reported 140 misdiagnosed suspected cases, of which 118 were from Beijing, 12 from Inner Mongolia, 3 each from Jilin and Hubei, and 1 each from Shanxi, Heilongjiang, Guangdong and Xinjiang. By 10:00 am June 8, the Chinese mainland had a total of 663 suspected cases.

From 10:00 am May 20 to 10:00 am June 8, the Chinese mainland reported a total of 163 diagnosed SARS cases (including 25 new diagnosed cases and 138 patients who used to be suspected cases).

Of these figures,

Beijing reported 20 new diagnosed cases, 1 misdiagnosed case (which was reported yesterday), and confirmed 99 suspected cases as SARS patients

Hebei reported 3 new diagnosed cases and confirmed 16 suspected cases as SARS patients

Shanxi reported 2 new diagnosed cases and confirmed 6 suspected cases as SARS patients

Inner Mongolia reported no new diagnosed case but confirmed 9 suspected cases as SARS patients

Liaoning reported no new diagnosed case but confirmed 4 suspected cases as SARS patients

Sichuan reported no new diagnosed case but confirmed 3 suspected cases as SARS patients

Shanghai reported no new diagnosed case but confirmed 1 suspected case as SARS patient

Now 925 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals.

According to the statistics standard of WHO, by 10:00 am June 8, 7 provinces on the Chinese mainland had reported SARS cases. Shanghai had reported no new diagnosed case for more than 15 days; Shanxi, Hebei and Inner Mongolia had reported no new diagnosed case for more than 10 days; and Beijing and Liaoning had reported no new diagnosed case for more than 5 days.
