Ministry of Health Press Release (June 5) on SARS
The Press Office under the Ministry of Health published Thursday afternoon a press release on the latest SARS situation on the Chinese mainland.

From 10:00 am June 4 to 10:00 am June 5, Chinese mainland reported no new SARS case, 96 patients recovered and 2 deaths. Patients recovered included 58 from Beijing, 17 from Shanxi, 10 from Inner Mongolia, 4 from Tianjin, 3 from Hebei, and 1 each from Anhui, Henan, Sichuan and Shaanxi. Shanxi Province also reported 2 deaths.

From 10:00 am June 4 to 10:00 am June 5, Chinese mainland reported 4 new suspected cases, of which 2 were from Guangdong, and 1 each from Beijing and Sichuan.

From 10:00 am June 4 to 10:00 am June 5, Chinese mainland also reported 17 misdiagnosed suspected cases, of which 5 were from Guangdong, 4 from Inner Mongolia, 3 each from Beijing and Shanxi, and 2 from Tianjin. By 10:00 am June 5, the Chinese mainland had a total of 895 suspected cases.

From 10:00 am May 17 to 10:00 am June 5, the Chinese mainland reported a total of 230 diagnosed SARS cases (including 53 new diagnosed cases and 177 patients who used to be suspected cases).

Of these figures,

Beijing reported 38 new diagnosed cases and confirmed 124 suspected cases as SARS patients

Hebei reported 6 new diagnosed cases and confirmed 25 suspected cases as SARS patients

Shanxi reported 4 new diagnosed cases and confirmed 7 suspected cases as SARS patients

Guangdong and Guangxi reported 2 new diagnosed cases respectively

Tianjin reported 1 new diagnosed case

Inner Mongolia reported no new diagnosed case but confirmed 11 suspected cases as SARS patients

Liaoning reported no new diagnosed case but confirmed 4 suspected cases as SARS patients

Jilin and Sichuan reported no new diagnosed case but each confirmed 2 suspected cases as SARS patients

Shanghai and Hubei reported no new diagnosed case but each confirmed 1 suspected case as SARS patient

Now 1,223 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals.

According to the statistics standard of WHO, by 10:00 am June 5, 12 provinces on the Chinese mainland had reported SARS cases. Tianjin, Jilin, Guangdong, Guangxi and Hubei had reported no new diagnosed case for more than 15 days; Shanghai, Sichuan Shanxi and Inner Mongolia had reported no new diagnosed case for more than 10 days; and Hebei had reported no new diagnosed case for 7 days.
