Scenic spots in Shandong Province saw a surging number of tourists during the week-long Spring Festival holiday, data from the provincial Tourism Administration showed on Sunday.

During the holiday that started on Jan. 22, about 12.13 million tourists visited scenic resorts in 17 cities of the province, up 20.32 percent year-on-year.

Jinan, the capital city of Shandong Province, received a total of about 1.42 million tourists during the holiday.

Qingdao, a coastal city of the province, accommodated a total of 1.32 million visitors during the holiday, up 18.28 percent from the same period of last year.

The Spring Festival, or Chinese Lunar New Year, falls on Jan. 23 this year.
