The upcoming annual session of the National People's Congress (NPC) will help the government to motivate the Chinese people to maintain economic development in 2010, the People's Daily said in an editorial to be published Friday.
The Third Session of the 11th NPC will start Friday and is scheduled to end on March 14. Nearly 3,000 lawmakers, or NPC deputies, are expected to attend the session.
The editorial said an important issue was a draft amendment to the Electoral Law, an important measure for the country to improve the people's congress system and advance socialist democracy.
The editorial warned of "arduous tasks" in sustaining China's economic development and maintaining social harmony and stability this year as "the country is still in a stage where conflicts are likely to arise."
The NPC session would fully motivate the Chinese people to unite and be innovative to realize the economic and social development goals set in the country's 11th five-year plan (2006-2010), the editorial said.
