April 10: The government of China's Tibet Autonomous Region has paid out 3 million yuan in compensation to the families of 15 people killed in the riots that erupted on March 14; A total of 2,204 people, including 519 monks, have surrendered to police in connection with riots in an ethnic Tibetan area of northwestern China last month, an official said on Wednesday; Chinese officials on Wednesday denied a so-called "media war" over the March 14 riot in Lhasa, the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region, saying that the majority of foreign journalists were covering the issue fairly.
