April 9: Qiangba Puncog, chairman of the Tibet autonomous regional government, vowed at a press conference in Beijing Wednesday that Olympic torch relay in Tibet will be safe and successful. He said anyone who dared to sabotage the torch relay in Tibet, will be severely punished according to the law. Police in Tibet have detained 953 people who were suspected of participating in the March 14 violence in Lhasa. A media tour to a riot-hit region in Gansu Province was interrupted by lamas at the Labrang Lamasery on Wednesday, but it soon resumed. None of the monks identified as fatalities by the Dalai Lama had proven to be dead after careful investigation. (China.org.cn)
