National Art Museum opens exhibition to celebrate CPC anniversary

An exhibition celebrating the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC) opens today at the National Art Museum of China in Beijing.

Running from June 27 to July 18, the exhibition will feature over 300 works from the museum’s collection as well as collections from around the country. Featured works will include traditional Chinese paintings, oil paintings, prints, sculptures, and folk art.
Museum director Fan Di'an said the exhibition is divided into three parts to show the development and achievements of the Chinese socialism. The first part shows the victory of democratic revolution from 1921 to 1949; works from the second exhibit canonize life during the period of socialist construction in China from 1949 to 1978; the third section chronicles people’s lives in the era of reform and opening-up and socialist modernization from 1979 to the present. In addition to the exhibition, the museum will hold a series of academic lectures and interactive youth activities, Fan said.
This year marks the 90th anniversary of the founding of the CPC. A great number of activities have been scheduled to celebrate the event, such as stage shows, singing competitions, sports events and poetry contests at both the national and local levels.
The National Art Museum of China is dedicated to the collection, research and exhibition of modern and contemporary artistic works. The building covers an area of more than 18,000 square meters and houses 17 exhibition halls. It was one of the top 10 architectural projects launched in Beijing in the 1950s and opened its doors for the first time in 1961.
