The Yangtze River Delta is the industrial and financial center of China. The 16 major cities that belong to this region have long histories; numerous classic poems have been written about them since ancient times, and their influence is still great to this day.
They are all relatively modern. Most boast some modern industries, ranging from logistics and scientific services to creative design. They are now engaged in upgrading their respective industries and endeavoring to achieve the ambitious goals of building the region into a world-class region with a modern services sector and advanced manufacturing might.
Nanjing
Nanjing is the capital of Jiangsu Province and one of China's most historically significant cities. Six dynasties made Nanjing their capital, and ancient monuments and sites of historical interest can still be found across the city. These include Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum, the Confucius Temple, Ming Dynasty Xiaoling Tomb, the Presidential Palace of the Republic of China (1912-1949) and Yuhuatai Martyrs Cemetery, a well-known scenic spot combining natural scenery with historical relics.
Nanjing is also one of China's greenest cities. The city government has planted thousands of trees both inside and outside the city. Other pro-environmental measures are being developed.
