SOEs to dominate online A/V content market

On December 27, Wang Xudong, Minister of Information Industry, disclosed that approved by the State Council, the State Administration of Radio Film and Television (SARFT) and the Ministry of Information Industry will collaboratively issue regulations concerning Internet audio and video content services in 2008. The regulations will provide clear and detailed explanations about issues such as market access.

Accordingly, only state-funded or state held enterprises can enter the online audio and video content market. In addition, all qualified enterprises must get audio and video content service licenses from the SARFT and Internet access licenses from the Ministry of Information Industry before starting operations.
