The raw parts used in Apple's upcoming iPhone 5 cost about US$270, much more than the iPhone 4, according to a Bloomberg analysis.
In the analysis titled "Apple iPhone 5 Hypothetical Gross Margin Analysis," Bloomberg provided a breakdown of the cost of possible iPhone 5 components.
Under Bloomberg's assumption, iPhone 5 will use a dual-core 1Ghz A5 processor, 512MB of RAM, and 16GB of storage. The iPhone 5 will be also equipped with an accelerator, gyroscope, GPS, Bluetooth component, Wi-Fi antenna and two high-resolution cameras.
The analysis put the estimated gross margin of the iPhone 5 at 56.4 percent, assuming a retail price of US$620 and excluding marketing and other costs.
By comparison, the iPhone 4 is estimated to cost about US$188.
China's business press carried the story above on Friday.
