4. China may expand cloud computing pilot program, Shanghai releases implementation plan

China's National Development and Reform Commission 


China hopes to expand its cloud computing programs beyond the five pilot cities designated last October, officials from the China’s chief economy planning body and ministry of information technology revealed at an industry conference Friday. Speaking at the third annual China Cloud Computing Conference in Beijing, officials from the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said they want to build on the foundation of cloud computing pilot programs in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Shenzhen and Wuxi, and further expand the project to other parts of China. Meanwhile, Shanghai has released details on its cloud computing program, making it the first pilot city to unveil implementation guidelines for the project and paving the way for rapid expansion of the city’s cloud computing industry.
