American Film Institute announces 2010 honorees

Academy Award hopefuls "Black Swan" and "The Social Network" as well as TV series "Mad Men", were among the 20 honorees of the American Film Institute(AFI) annual awards for 2010.
The 10 AFI movies of the year are: "Black Swan;""The Fighter;" "Inception;""The Kids Are All Right;" "127 Hours;" "The Social Network;""The Town;""Toy Story 3;""True Grit" and "Winter's Bone", according to an AFI statement issued on Sunday.
The 10 television series that have received AFI's commendation are: "The Big C", "Boardwalk Empire", "Breaking Bad", "Glee", "Mad Men", "Modern Family", "The Pacific", "Temple Grandin", "30 Rock", and "The Walking Dead".
British historical drama "The King's Speech" and documentary "Waiting for 'Superman'" received special awards, which are given to achievements in the moving image that don't fit into AFI's criteria for other honors.
"As AFI Awards entered its second decade of documenting excellence across the century, it became clear from the scholars, critics and artists who come together for the American Film Institute that acknowledging outstanding work outside the traditional AFI criteria would provide greater context to our goal of recording a true history of the art form," said AFI President & CEO Bob Gazzale.
The awards, honoring the year' s most outstanding achievements in film, television, and other forms of the moving image arts, were selected by a jury made up of scholars, film and TV artists, critics and AFI trustees.
AFI will honor the honorees at at an invitation-only luncheon on Jan.14 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles.
