As part of the Festival of India in China, the Indian Film Festival opens in Beijing on June 24 and runs until July 23.
Ten Indian films in five different languages (Bengali, Hindi, Malayalam, Marathi and Tamil) will be screened in three cities: Beijing (Broadway Cinematheque, Xindong'an Cinema), Chongqing (Jinyuan Cinema) and Guangzhou (Feiyang International Cinema).
All films have Chinese subtitles. They include "Antaheen", "Pasanga", "Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!", "Harishchandrachi Factory", and "The White Elephant".
Organizers stated they sought a full slate of multi-language films to properly represent all aspects of the Indian Diaspora with respect to cinema. There will be no commercial sale of tickets.
Parallel to the film festival, the Indian Council of Cultural Relations is sponsoring an exhibition titled "Journey of Indian Cinema" in Beijing and Guangzhou. It visually depicts the evolution and growth of Indian cinema.
The festival is being co-organized by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, the Indian government, and the Film Bureau of the Chinese State Administration for Radio, Film and TV.
