The Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) committee has announced the film projects selected for its central platforms CFPC (China Film Pitch and Catch) and Co-FPC (Co-production Film Pitch and Catch) to promote rising filmmakers in China's film industry.
The Beijing News reports that the committee received 219 submissions, and 35 projects, including 9 CFPC projects and 26 Co-FPC projects. Aspiring filmmakers are given the opportunity to receive professional coaching and later are allowed to pitch their ideas to film production companies and the news media.
Yang Qing, director of the 2009 comedy "One Night in the Supermarket," brought "Road No.8" (Gong Lu 8 Hao) to this year's festival; Zhou Zhiyong, screenwriter of the popular black comedy "Crazy Stone" and "Crazy Racer," is expected to pitch his film project "Catching Big Fish" (Diao Da Yu); Director Li Xiaofeng's new film project "Track" (Zhui Zong) was also selected. Li has previously worked on the award-winning Golden Horse Best Film "Ke Ke Xi Li" directed by Lu Chuan, and helped Zhang Yuan with his film "Da Da".
Chinese actor and director Zhang Guoli will participate in CFPC as an investor. He said he would help emerging film talents with their projects.
Projects for Co-FPC also include director Hou Yong's film "Heaven of Mi Ya" (Mi Ya De Tian Tang), the action comedy "My Agent Girlfriend" (Wo De Jian Die Nu You) from veteran director He Nian and written by screenwriter Ning Cai Shen, and Korean director Myung-se Lee's "My Love, My Bride."
In addition, the committee revealed this year's SIFFORUM successfully invited Weinstein Company CEO Harvey Weinstein, China Film Group Cooperation chairman Han San Ping, Polybona Films president Yu Dong, plus well-known Chinese directors Feng Xiaogang, He Ping, Wang Xiaoshuai, Leon Dai, Pang Ho-Cheung and respected Korean director Kang Je-Gyu.
